Formerly known as our #WomanCrushWednesday in STEM or #QueerCrushWednesday in STEM series, these features highlight the wisdom, creativity, resilience and autonomy of Black, Indigenous women and non-binary people of color. Our featured articles share personal experiences alongside technical expertise in an effort to connect established and emerging members of our community and to expand the digital footprint of women/non-binary people of color in STEM. Decolonized
MentorinG

We help folks of any identity or background be a better mentor to underrepresented, minoritized students. Looking to find a BIPOC mentor? Sign up for our titular “Guerilla Mentoring” program where mentees are matched with community mentors for 30min online mentoring sessions. Our Unbound Community Mentoring Program serves underreprersented undergraduate students. For those looking to hone their approach to mentoring, we offer workshops focused on mentoring across intersections of identity and challenging inequitable systems in STEM culture.

Hot Science
Series

Hot Science Summer is our grant program where we give funding to do your science, your way! Ever had a question you wanted to answer? An internship where you needed travel funds ? An experiment you need resources for? Or a way you wanted to help your community? Through our Hot Science Summer program, we work toward equitable access to science resources by awarding participants grants and hosting a community crowd funding effort. Once their projects are funded, we keep up with their progress before bringing them together to share their stories on our platform. Check out previous Hot Science Summer projects.

#VSgetsLit

VS gets ‘Lit’ is VanguardSTEM’s book club which explores literature authored by Black, Indigenous, Women and Non-Binary People of Color in STEM! Our goal is to highlight as many of these authors as we can who have recently written books (or peer-reviewed articles!) that uplift any aspect of our intersectional STEM identities as members of the #VSVillage. Keep up with the content hub for interviews, book giveaways, and conversations with these authors. Contact us to be a featured author or send us a peer-reviewed paper!

Digital Footprint FELLOWSHIP

The primary goal of the fellowship is to expand the digital footprint of Black, Indigenous, Women and Non-Binary People of Color in STEM through cultural production. Fellows produce community profiles, aggregate online content by BIPOC STEM creatives, and contribute to knowledge production as it relates to the VanguardSTEM mission. This program serves our goal to cultivate resilience, science identity, and a sense of community among BIPOC women and non-binary STEM creatives. Our first iteration of this program was funded by the Wikimedia Knowledge Equity Grant.
