The Conversation on Burnout and Resilience Continues
by Jedidah Isler, Ph.D.
A quick note to let you know what’s coming up for the rest of the month. We’re really excited about it and can’t wait to share another great month of ideas, fellowship and communion with you.
Who knew when we had our #VanguardSTEM episode about Burnout, Bravery and Being a Woman of Color in STEM that the topic would resonate so widely? Not only that, how could we have know that it would usher in a difficult few weeks of racial trauma as well? As we thought through how to proceed through the next month and into our third season (!!) of #VanguardSTEM, we couldn’t shake the fact that we are still burned out; that we are still reconciling our feelings. So since that is the case and there are many more stories to tell, we have decided to extend our burnout series into the August episode. We’ll be announcing our season premiere guests soon, so stay tuned!
We’ll open season 3 of #VanguardSTEM by talking more about burnout in general, but also as it relates specifically to racial trauma in dealing with the extrajudicial murders of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile. We’ll be focusing in on resilience and how to proceed with caution and with an eye towards self-care. We’ll also be sharing stories about burnout throughout the month with our #MeetMal series and engaging through our other gifted writers on the topic all month. If you engage with us on social media, we are still soliciting letters of support by and for #WoCinSTEM, so feel free to contribute if you’re so moved.
We’ll also be refreshing the look and feel of #VanguardSTEM for our new season, so stay tuned for that. There’s a lot to come on #VanguardSTEM and we’re elated that you’re along for the journey. Onwards!
